Whiners & Gurus

In today's world, we often get overwhelmed by the torrent of complaints that come our way in whatever we do.

There are people who are genuinely concerned with big issues that will bring about serious consequences, but then there are also whiners ($in-gaporeans fit this profile perfectly) who are obsessed with every minute detail, not because they have everyone's interest at heart, but because they want everything done according to their whims and fancies - it also gives them a boost to their overblown egos cos they think they're showing others how "smart" they are in pointing out the "flaws" of others. Let's face it. No one decision will ever please these whiners, cos they'll never stop whining.

My advice: Listen only to those who don't whine 24/7, on almost everything - chances are, they're warning about "pearl harbour".

Twice is enough to set the alarm bells ringing if it's a serious issue, and I won't waste any more "ammunition" firing warning shots.

To the untrained eye, there is no difference between one who informs developers of a serious system security issue and a whiner who whines about control buttons being placed "on the left when they should be on the right". But really, no one gives a damn as to what ordinary laymen think of me.

If there's any whiner reading this now, you must be fuming with rage by now. Well, your attention-seeking antics haven't gotten you anywhere. You've got to bring something relevant and substantial to the table before people start listening to you. But you can't do that, cos you lack even basic IT skills.

One cannot be an auditor unless he is an accounting expert. It's not surprising though, that I find so many "auditors" out there in $in-gapore who don't even know the fundamentals of accounting. It's also not surprising to find pastors who preach things that are contrary to the Word of God.

Complaining and picking on others without knowing a thing - it's a typical $in-gaporean behaviour.

You may continue doing what you're doing, but you'll only fool imbeciles like yourself.

School-issued Laptops Used As Spycams

This would be hard to do if the laptops had Linux installed or they were Macs. MickySoft has the back doors for this and other intrusions built-in.

A suburban Philadelphia school district used school-issued laptop web cams to spy on students at home, a federal lawsuit claims.

Officials at the US school district can activate webcams on the computers without students' knowledge or permission, a family alleges in the lawsuit.

Plaintiffs Michael and Holly Robbins suspect the cameras captured students and family members as they undressed and in other embarrassing situations.

Virus Cripples University Network

To cut a long story short, a virus hit the M$ Windows Vista machines of a university and the entire network had to be shut down.

Bear this in mind, boys and gals. If you're using M$ products, then you're like a $lut who has her legs spread wide open for the whole wide world to....you-know-what!

Enough said - Let's pop the champagne!

Digital Ants for Security

Researchers are looking to change the face of cyber security by attacking Internet worms before they infect networks and PCs. The idea is to take an offensive front by using "Digital Ants" that mimic the ability of (real) ants to readily adapt to changing threats.

2nd Amendment

Similarly, self-professing $in-gaporean "IT gurus" call me an incompetent moron. Out of respect for their warped opinions, I promise NOT to use my skills and talent to save their porn-filled Windoze computers.

Cam whores can still count on me. Never will I leave you - never will I forsake you.

Hackers Foil Two-Factor Authentication

Accounting creeps who use Windows to surf porn sites, watch out! Even if your bank has implemented two-factor authentication, it no longer offers any protection from hackers.

Ironically, dumb $in-gaporeans are safe from this threat. Thanks to the brilliance of foreign talent that $in-gaporeans are incapable of producing, the major banks there require a user to authenticate every monetary transaction.

Not Resisting Attackers Can Be A Lethal Strategy

The following story challenges the belief that resisting your attacker only escalates the violence. Just give them what they want and they’ll leave you alive, right?

Truecrypt 6.2 and Ext4

Once again, I had to create a new TrueCrypt volume because I ran out of disk space on my old one. It was huge, so the entire process took almost an hour to complete. :-(

I decided to try the new ext4 filesystem and the following is what I did:

1. Start up TrueCrypt and create a volume using the GUI, without specifying a file system.

2. After the TrueCrypt volume has been successfully created, mount it using the TrueCrypt GUI. Ensure that under Options, the "Do not mount" option is checked.

3. In a terminal window, type: sudo mkfs.ext4 /dev/mapper/truecrypt1

4. After the formatting is done, use the TrueCrypt GUI to dismount and remount the TrueCrypt volume.

You should now be able to start using your TrueCrypt volume.

$in-gaporean Jailed for Raping Chinese National

(Not actual photo - for illustrative purposes only)

On June 2, the victim went to her balcony to check if her laundry had dried. She saw the creep standing on his balcony with only a towel wrapped around his lower body, waving to her and saying, "Oei, oei."

As she did not understand his $inglish, she replied with, "No, no," and went back to her room.

Later in the afternoon, when the victim opened her room door to go out for lunch, Mahendran dragged her into his room, forced himself upon her and proceeded to rape her.

I have come to learn that $in-gaporean perverts hardly prey on $in-gapore girls because of their ugliness.

My advice to all you pretty girls out there: Avoid $in-gapore like the plague.

Interview With An Adware Writer

Matt Knox, a talented Ruby instructor and coder, talks about his early days designing and writing adware for Direct Revenue. (Direct Revenue was sued by Eliot Spitzer in 2006 for allegedly surreptitiously installing adware on millions of computers.)

An excerpt of the interview:

M: Yes. I should probably first speak about how adware works. Most adware targets Internet Explorer (IE) users because obviously they're the biggest share of the market. In addition, they tend to be the less-savvy chunk of the market. If you're using IE, then either you don't care or you don't know about all the vulnerabilities that IE has.

S: In your professional opinion, how can people avoid adware?

M: Um, run UNIX.

Google Docs Security Blunder

Google inadvertently shared the documents belonging to users of Google Docs with contacts who were not supposed to have access to them.

According to Google, it was an isolated incident affecting less than 0.05% of all documents. The damage may not be widespread, but nevertheless, it's an unsettling lapse in security.
