Having a Kimchi, Sauerkraut and Pickles Feast

A few hours short of two days was all it took to ferment all that.

My secret solution (made with edible stuff) which I use to make wine in three days, was added for super-accelerated fermentation.

There was no observable fermentation for the sauerkraut and pickles after the first 24 hours because I had forgotten to add my secret solution to them. So, I drained both containers and added the solution yesterday.

Both sauerkraut and pickles are sour now, but I'm going to let them ferment for one more day before putting them into the refrigerator.

This time round, I added some cheap Chinese frozen raw oysters to my kimchi. The vegetables taste fine but the taste of the oysters is sort of repulsive....yet tasty.....Well, I'll need to get used that. :-)

Joke - Burglars

My wife has not spoken to me in three days. I think it has something to do with what happened on Sunday night when she thought she heard a noise downstairs.

She nudged me and whispered, "Wake up, wake up!"

"What's the matter?" I asked.

"There are burglars in the kitchen. I think they're eating the tuna casserole I made tonight."

"That'll teach them!" I replied.

Joke - Butcher Shop

A lady goes into the butcher shop and as she is walking around the store, she spies a beef tongue in the butcher's counter. The lady asks, "What in the world is that?"

"Beef tongue," replies the butcher!

The lady gives a little involuntary shudder, "No way would I put anything in my mouth that came out of an animal's mouth!"

The butcher nods sympathetically while peeking into the woman's shopping cart, "I see you're buying a dozen eggs!"

Kimchi - Proudly Made in China

I made Kimchi for the first time yesterday - the Chinese way. I'm aware that some Koreans do it this way too. Why? Because it's simply cheaper and better.

"Korean" chilli paste, for instance, is a product derived from Chinese and Indian products. I'm saying it's really a mixture of Chinese/Indian products. In fact, I could make that in a matter of minutes!

No, I'll never cook the way lame $in-gaporeans do. They use ready-made expensive Korean condiments (with lots of unhealthy chemical preservatives) and they call it cooking! Even worse is the fact that what they churn out is hardly edible, if not entirely inedible. Even starving stray dogs will have second thoughts about eating that - it's really animal abuse to feed them that. Other than the high prices and unhealthy additives, there's nothing wrong with the made-in-Korea condiments. The problem lies with the made-in-$in-gapore "cooks". Oh dear....I think $in-gaporeans share a curse that also runs in my family. I am an exception and it is not by chance that I always get things right the first time - God willed it.

While dumb $in-gaporeans are snapping up expensive Korean products like hot cakes, I'm using Chinese and Indian products (and they're of the superior kind) at a tiny fraction of the $in-gaporeans' cost.

My non-Asian brothers and sisters out there, before you buy that expensive Japanese or Korean product, consider if you can make it yourself using Chinese and Indian products.

My kimchi has fermented very quicky, thanks to my personal secret knowledge of making wine in just 3 days. I am retarding the fermentation now.

Great Uses of Vinegar

A couple of nights ago, I had one of those occasional vivid dreams.

A dead relative appeared before me all of a sudden and warned me that ghosts were harassing some people who were known to both of us. She begged me to douse my left hand in vinegar, and let them inhale the vinegar vapours. She specified that my left hand was preferred, as it was "closer to my heart than the right hand". I did as she requested......

I got up and walked about the house in the dark, as I always do whenever I awake from a vivid nightmare. Nope, no "ghosts" (demons). :-)

This dream prompted me to do a search on Google for "ghosts vinegar". This is what I found about vinegar as a ghost repellent:

"A traditional "ghost repellent" is to put open plates of vinegar (no kidding) around. Supposedly ghosts don't like the odor. Never tried it myself."

Oh really? I don't like the odour very much either, but you'll find me consuming it even. *Lol*

Disregard whatever the wiccans tell you about vinegar. The following are some great practical uses of vinegar:

"Meat" for Vegetarians

Textured vegetable protein (TVP), also known as textured soy protein (TSP) is a meat substitute made from defatted soy flour, a by-product of making soybean oil. It is quick to cook, high in protein, and low in fat.

It makes a great substitute for ground meat!

Japan's latest gourmet gimmick: one-grain sushi

From the land that gave the world such tiny treats as bonsai, midget submarines and shiploads of quaint consumer goods comes, according to Shukan Bunshun (10/19), the latest example of Japanese miniaturization -- single grain sushi!

The delicate little morsel is authentic sushi, but instead of a slather of raw fish slapped on top of a handful of rice, there's only a single, tiny grain of the Japanese staple used.

That leaves only enough room for the fish to no bigger than about 1 centimeter-by-2 centimeters at most."
