Tip: With Basic to Dynamic Disks, Don't Forget The Free Space
Windows 2000's Dynamic Disk feature is a great way to quickly add space to a designated volume, but it comes with a couple of caveats. When creating partitions and volumes, Windows 2000's Disk Management will reserve 1 MB of free space at the end of each disk or partition. However, other disk management tools on other operating systems may not. When upgrading a basic disk to a dynamic disk, ensure that the disk has 1MB of free space at the end of the disk - otherwise, the upgrade will fail.
