LONDON (UPI) -- Italian fashion icon Giorgio Armani is speaking out against overly skinny models on the catwalks of Europe's fashion centers.
Armani said the fashion industry should ban size zero models as a statement against anorexia and other eating disorders among young women.
"I have never liked thin girls and I have never made them go on the catwalk," Armani said in Monday's Daily Mail.
Armani's statements were the strongest on the topic from a leading designer. The debate over thin models, who are believed to show the clothes better, heated up after the recent death of model Luisel Ramos. The ultra-thin women were barred from working at Madrid Fashion Week.
