apt-get clean - Clear Your Apt Cache

While Advanced Packaging Tool, or Apt, makes installing programs for a Debian-based Linux a snap, the cache can swell to gigantic proportions and clog up your drive.

Start up a terminal window and issue the following command:

sudo apt-get clean

This clears out the local repository of retrieved package files. It removes everything but the lock file from /var/cache/apt/archives/ and /var/cache/apt/archives/partial/.
