Nations miss obvious benefit of Linux

Have more security and control of information

Many countries seem to miss the obvious advantages of using open source. The greatest advantage to countries is the fact that they can be sure that their software is clean of spyware delivered with a binary distribution. By making a distribution of the Debian core or a fork of Ubuntu they could have the best of both worlds. It could be customized especially for their language needs and they could benefit from the common research of all nations in the core stability.

Save money

It would be an economic advantage to the nations that use it also, as the drain of resources from M$ can be astounding in a country that struggles to find sufficient food. They don't need to be paying money for something that does not work in the first place. Linux promotes cooperation among people to improve productivity. The easy way in which Linux works saves productivity time.

Stability

The long term plans for Ubuntu Hardy Heron also allow a greater software design stability than can ever be hoped for in M$. I am not sure whether they are going to re-release 'Classic Coke' ( XP ) or try and force Vista, I don't think they even know.

Flexibility of hardware choice

Another advantage is that Linux can run on a number of core processors and configurations. This allows countries to select their own hardware design, or select a design which best reflects good import policy.
