Timevault - "OSX Time Machine" for Ubuntu 7.10 Users

TimeVault is a simple front-end for making snapshots of a set of directories. Snapshots are a copy of a directory structure or file at a certain point in time. Restore functionality is integrated into Nautilus - previous versions of a file or directory that has a snapshot can be accessed by examining the properties and selecting the 'Previous Versions' tab.

It is the Linux-equivalent to Time Machine from Apple, which is included with Mac OS X v10.5 "Leopard".

Here's how to set up, configure and use Timevault on Ubuntu 7.10.

Better yet, use subversion!

It may be that subversion is a bit hard for the average user to understand (though I doubt that, having taught an average user how to use it). But time machine and this time vault are just crippled variants of version control systems. So why not use a full-blown version control system, and save disk space while you're doing it?

I don't wanna scare my readers away. I've been getting positive feedback from readers on the simplicity and ease-of-use of the apps that I've recommended.
