Free At Last

"We like Ubuntu's philosophy, to wit: Ubuntu is an African concept of "humanity towards others." It is "the belief in a universal bond of sharing that connects all humanity." Put another way: "I am because of what we all are," or, "A person is a person because of other persons." Or in yet another way: Somebody stuck their hand out to me, and I grasped it, to our mutual benefit.

No real reason to get spiritual here. There are plenty of other Linux distributions that apparently work as well as Ubuntu, though we have not tried them all. The important thing is that Ubuntu does work. Ubuntu is the South African striking of the silver coin that is Linux. It works. Try a Chinese, or South American, or European version. It's still good; it's still Linux, it is still universal, it is still silver.

There are Federal Reserve interest-bearing notes that you use as dollars, just as there is Microsoft. And there is Linux, struck of pure silver. These are choices. You don't need to be a geek, or a hard-rock miner, to appreciate the difference. Further, affiant sayeth not. Free at last. Selah."
