Father of Hong Kong movie star stalker commits suicide

"A 29-year-old woman's obsessive pursuit of Hong Kong movie star Andy Lau ended in tragedy this week after her father committed suicide on Monday.

Yang Lijuan, from Lanzhou, capital city of northwest China's Gansu province, had been infatuated with Lau since the age of 16 when she dropped out of school to become what she termed a "full-time fan".

Her obsession crippled her family's finances. Her mother Du Juying, 54, was also unemployed so the family of three lived on the monthly pension of 2,000 yuan (257 U.S. dollars) of her 68-year-old father Yang Qinji, a retired teacher.

The parents failed to dissuade their daughter from her hero-worshipping and, driven by poverty, Yang Qinji sold the house and even thought of selling one of his kidneys to fund his daughter's "career"."
