"Meat" for Vegetarians

Textured vegetable protein (TVP), also known as textured soy protein (TSP) is a meat substitute made from defatted soy flour, a by-product of making soybean oil. It is quick to cook, high in protein, and low in fat.

It makes a great substitute for ground meat!

Also works in bigger chunks in goulash-type dishes.

I think it is a good idea,
however I must make the obligatory 'Soylent Green' 1973 comment :) If you haven't ever seen that sci-fi movie , here is a clip on you tube. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aTjQO163P2E&feature=related

*Lol* In fact, Soylent Green was what came to my mind immediately, when I read Jolinda Hackett's article on TVP.

I watched the entire movie some time back.

"Soylent Green is people!" :-)
